About Me

Hi, I'm Edwina

I’m an Early Childhood educator, born and raised in South Africa. I have a B.A. in Applied Psychology, a post graduate Diploma in Education and a Graduate Diploma in Early Childhood Education. I started my teaching career as a Secondary School language teacher. After moving internationally and starting my own family, I fell in love with Early Childhood when my own children started their learning journey in Dubai where I taught Kindergarten in an innovative American international school. I now call Perth, Australia home and am a proud parent of two curious, independent minded young men.

When I first started teaching Pre-Primary (4 and 5 year olds) over a decade ago, I quickly realized that children thrive when they’re able to explore their own interests and passions. Through my studies with Dr. Claire Warden in Nature Pedagogy and Kath Murdoch’s inquiry integrated model, I found my teaching style – by dovetailing explicit instruction in literacy and numeracy with inquiry and project-based learning!

This model allowed students’ curiosity and creativity to blossom, whilst simultaneously developing their literacy and numeracy skills and understanding.

Why I Created Ed's Lessons

How It All Started

As I witnessed first hand the transformative power of integrating inquiry-based learning on students’ motivation to learn, I realised that this might be the antidote to the struggles and frustrations of so many educators who want to embrace strategies that inspire children to think, problem solve and be creative and independent learners, while simultaneously meeting the demands of the curriculum!

That’s why I created Ed’s Lessons – to help  educators like you, effortlessly incorporate inquiry-based activities into everyday lessons, so that children not only develop much needed and valued curiosity and a love for learning, but also the skills needed to thrive in an ever evolving world.

My goal is to help both classroom and home based  educators employ strategies like inquiry-based learning to keep children curious, so that they develop a lifelong love of learning.

So, if you’re looking for ways to engage children, and learn how to confidently integrate inquiry-based learning into your everyday lessons, then subscribe below and join me on this exciting journey where children gain agency over their own learning.

As Albert Einstein said

“Education is not the learning of facts, but the training of the mind to think.”

B has been so lucky to have had such an amazing start to her education. Through your approach to teaching, you not only meet the guidelines of what they need to know, but we love the way you let them explore their own ideas and experiment with creativity and imagination."
